Before your class

  • What age should my child start swim lessons?

We recommend that children start swim lessons as early as 3 months old, but if your child is older than that, it’s always a good time to start! The Aqua Swim curriculum is designed to teach children of all ages and abilities on how to survive and thrive in any body of water. Our motto is that it’s never too late to learn.

  • Why does Aqua Swim Academy recommend year-round swim lessons?

Participating in year-round swim lessons is the most effective way for your child to become a safe and confident swimmer and helps them retain more knowledge for longer periods of time.

Swimming occasionally throughout the year can create a gap in a child’s swimming skills. Children may then have to relearn skills upon returning to swim lessons instead of immediately jumping into new skills.

  • How many days per week should my child take lessons to develop strong swimming skills?

We recommend taking weekly lessons and participating in our fast track swim weeks during school holidays in order to build your child’s skill level and jump levels quickly.

  • What are swim pants and why does my child have to wear them?

All children who are not potty trained must wear a swim pant on top of their disposable swim diaper.  In an effort to protect all swimmers from Water Born Illnesses (WBI), Aqua Swim Academy requires this as a rule in order to be in the water. Wearing a disposable diaper and swim pants on top will contain a solid accident in the swimming pool and protect everyone from WBI.

Swim pants can be purchased from our swim shop for your child. To ensure every child is ready for their class this will be added automatically to your check out when enrolling a new child under 3 years old.

  • What do I need to bring to my parent and baby swim class?

For a parent & baby class, you will need to bring the following:

    • A reusable swim pant provided by Aqua Swim and a disposable swim diaper
    • Swimsuit for the parent who will be getting in the water with the baby
    • A change of clothes for the baby to be changed into after swimming
    • Car seat to set the baby in while the parent changes
    • A towel for the baby and a towel for the parent
    • Bottle or breastfeeding supplies. Baby might get hungry after all the exercise.
    • A plastic bag for wet clothes
    • Favourite bath time toy for the first class
    • A calm and relaxing attitude. Babies pick up tension from rush and stress.

We have a list of useful items in our Luna Shop where you can buy items to equip you on your swim journey.

What to expect during your class

  • Will my child have the same instructor for every lesson?

Our goal is to offer consistent instructors our classes. However, sometimes a change occurs due to instructor availability, sickness, vacation, etc. Regardless of who teaches, all instructors are equally equipped to teach your child how to swim safely.

  • How long does each class last?

All classes are 30 minutes long. Although it’s possible to keep students in the water longer, experience has taught us that 30 minutes is about the longest you can expect a student to be challenged with new swim skills in the water.

The industry standard is 1 minute per degree. So if our pools are around 30 degrees, students should not exceed this amount for health and safety reasons.

  • What are the group class ratios?

Swim classes can 4 to 5 students per teacher, depending on the age and level of the class.

More advanced swimmers in our Swim club may have up to 6 students per class.

  • What do parents do during a typical class?

At a typical Aqua Swim Class, parents or guardians are expected to:

    • Check in with a swim coach for your first lesson.
    • Encourage your child to use the toilet before lessons.
    • Staff will NOT assist children in the chaning rooms or toilets.
    • Get your child changed into a wet suit, swim suit and/or swim pants.
    • Walk your child out to their class if you are not accompanying them in the pool. Pick up any necessary swim equipment that your child uses in class.
    • Wait in the parent sofa area or the café during lessons. Please do not leave the facility during lessons. For safety reasons, parents are asked to keep their eyes on their child at all times before, during and after the swim lesson.  No one is better at keeping a watchful eye on their child than their parent.
    • When the lesson is complete, wrap your child up with his/her towel.
    • Use a changing room to allow your child to change back into clothes. Please bear in mind that due to space/capacity reasons, we may sometimes offer gender-neutral changing rooms with individual privacy cabins depending on the location.
  • Do you provide make-up sessions?

YES! We call this "make-up tokens" they provided to clients  to give added flexibility to make up missed sessions.

Here are a few key points to note:

    • Make-up tokens may be requested via the parent portal 48 hours before your class.

    • We cannot guarantee the availability of make up lessons. They will only be provided if there are spaces available in the appropriate class.

    • One make up lesson per month (per booking) may be offered for the following circumstances:

    o For sickness OR

o For absence during the school holidays

    • Make up lessons must be taken within one month of the date of absence.

    • Make up lessons will not necessarily be with the original instructor.

    • Make up lessons can only be booked after the date of absence.

    • If a make-up lesson is missed, it is no longer eligible for rescheduling. Make-up lessons cannot be used towards monthly tuition costs.

    • Make up lessons may not be transferred to another family member.

  • Why can't I have unlimited changes?

The simple answer is we would love to! However, we must maintain as much consistency and continuity for the children we teach and this includes adults. Students thrive through consistency and ongoing changes can disrupt the classes and limit your child's progress. This is why we must limit the scope of the makeup tokens.

  • What happens when my child advances to the next level?

Upon completion of each level, your child’s instructor will let you know that they are ready to graduate to the next level. Our staff will then work with you to enrol your child in the next class.

AquaSwim additional services

  • When can I start pre-natal swim lessons?

For Pre-natal swim lessons we ask that you follow your doctor's recommendation.

Lessons can start at any moment during pregnancy, we teach up until week 36 of pregnancy.

  • How do I hire a lifeguard or entertainer for my pool party?

Booking a qualified lifeguard for your pool party puts your mind as a host at ease. Our lifeguard arrives early at your home to survey the pool and key risk areas. They will not be part of the celebration, but instead ensuring the water safety and wellbeing of all guests so you can focus on hosting.

In some instances we can provide a water animator whose focus will be on entertaining swimmers in the pool with fun activities and games. We have several themes to choose from Mermaid to Paw Patrol.  Let Luna and friends make your pool party even more fun!

Please contact us directly for availability and rates.

  • Can I book private at-home swimming lessons directly with the swim coach?

As Aqua Swim Academy is a registered Swiss Company and protects both client and teacher, this is not possible. Booking through Aqua Swim ensures all taxes, personal liability insurance are covered.

Booking directly with the coach could lead to unnecessary liability and risks to both parties should an accident occur in the home.

Teaching remotely comes with inherent risks and we do our best to ensure all parties are covered under Swiss Law.

When you book at-home lessons with us, an Aqua Swim coach will arrive at your home with his “remote teaching kit” for every class and we ensure you have the highest quality lesson that follows our proprietary teaching methods.

  • Can I book a swim coach to teach me in the lake?

Yes, some of our coaches are certified to teach in the lake and can provide key tips for lake swim safety for both children and adults.

  • Are you open all year?

YES! All lessons continue through the year.  Why? Because swim skills require consistency year round.

    - 1  week during the feburary ski holiday

    - 2 weeks over Easter

  • How do I change my child’s scheduled day and/or time for lessons?

Via the parent portal you can transfer your class to another time/date slot.
